Ankara is not able to separate “moderate” militants from “radical” in Idlib

Islamist militants, supported by Ankara for a long time, are doing their best to disrupt joint patrols by Russian and Turkish military in the Idlib de-escalation zone.
On March 15, terrorists blocked the route of the joint patrol in several places of the M-4 highway. The Russian part of the convoy passed from the city of Sarakib in the east of Idlib province only a few kilometers and turned back in connection with receiving information that the militants were preparing armed provocations against the military of the Russian Federation. The Turkish military was able to patrol only in the territory controlled by the militants of the pro-Turkish National Liberation Front, while they were afraid to appear in the territory controlled by Khayyat Tahrir al-Sham.
The next day, the militants blocked a section of the M-4 road between n.a. Erich and Nairab to prevent Russian-Turkish patrols. Will Turkey be able to fulfill its obligations to ensure the safety of patrols? Most armed terrorist groups in Syrian Idlib, including the KhTSH, have not recognized the Russian-Turkish agreement.
The Turkish command sent a military convoy to the area where the highway was blocked, with the intention of convincing “opposition activists” to unblock the road under the pretext of the need for Turkish armored vehicles to pass through it. However, militants and “activists” from among the local population threw stones at cars. As a result, the column was forced to turn back without solving the problem.
In 2018, Ankara committed to separate the “moderate” militants from the “radicals,” but this process is in place. Moreover, under the cover of Turkish troops, the terrorists were able to rearm with external support and are ready for counter-offensive actions. And the Turkish military is stopping them.
